UPDATE AS OF MARCH 29, 2022
EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED
Due to extremely low participation (31 total people as of today) I have decided to cancel the 2022 Five Peaks.
I'm sure this is hugely disappointing to you and I'm right there with you. In 20 years of event production I've never canceled an event due to low participation. Sure, we've canceled/postponed many events due to weather, COVID, and fire/smoke risk. But this is a first.
In my opinion, several factors are contributing to the low numbers:
- Re-scheduled from its original date to the same weekend as the Grand Traverse and Cody's Challenge. (Cody's also showing low numbers).
- Event hasn't taken place since 2019 so it isn't as "on the radar" as it has been in the past.
- Lots of new events throughout the season may have given people their fill.
For the record, I take total responsibility for the low turnout. I was hopeful that the event's reputation would continue to carry it. That clearly is no longer the case. Given that we haven't been able to host the event since 2019 due to COVID, a more substantial marketing effort was needed.
So, please accept my apology and know that you, the registered racer are the most important people. Your support of the event means a lot and I hope you will keep The Five Peaks in mind for next year.
I will be following up with information on how you may expect to see your refund. I am working out the details as we speak.
Also, you will be given a coupon for $30 off this year's Imperial Challenge scheduled for April 16.
Realizing that you now have an open day this weekend, here are a couple of events to help you fill the void:
- Cody's Challenge (registration closes March 30)
- Uphill and Chill at Arapahoe Basin (part of the Legend's 75th Anniversary celebration)
Take care and happy sliding out there.
Sincerley,
Jeff Westcott
Race Director
